Mosques and Shrines

Emir Karatekin Bey and Hacı Murad-ı Veli are shrines located in Çankırı.

Tas Mescit: (Cemaleddin Ferruh Darülhadisi) It is the most important structure from the Seljuk period in Çankırı. The Healing House (Şifahane) of the work consisting of two parts, was built by Çankırı Atabeg Cemaleddin Ferruh at the time of anatolian Seljuk Sultan Keyhüsrevoğlu I. Alaadin Keykubat in AD1235. The part called Darulhadis was added to Şifahane in 1242.

The structure is important in terms of plastic arts because of two figures on it. One of them has always been subject of the publication. It is a relief 100x25 cm in size with a pattern of the two dragons (snakes) whose bodies are tangled. The heads of the dragon are shaped so that they face each other. Today, the original of the relief used as "Symbol of Medicine" is lost but a new one has been made as a true copy of the original and put in place.

Also known as the snake drinking water among people, the second part is not a low relief, but on the contrary, a sculpture itself. The cup-shaped piece used in Darülhadis is made of porous stone. A snake is intertwined on the body and ends in the upper part with an extension. This motif is used as "the Symbol of Pharmacy" and is still exhibited in Çankırı Museaum.
The Great Mosque: (Ulu-Sultan Suleyman Mosque) one of the works from the Mimar Sinan Period, the mosque was built by Sadık Kalfa by the order of the great Ottoman ruler Suleiman the Magnificent.

In the Ottoman Period, education was given great importance and many madrasas were established also in Çankırı province, as in all over the country. Today Çivitçioğlu Madras to the east of the Great Mosque and Buğday Pazarı Madrasa in the garden of Buğday Pazarı Mosque are works reaching from the 19th century to the present.
